  1. Very Nice Machine

Posted by Ryan on 9th Apr 2014

Purchased the DIY kit with only a few weeks of research into 3d printing under my belt. The printer came very nicely packaged with quality parts. Took about 4 days to get the kit put together for me, it was fun to do. Slightly lacking in specific instructions for the build published anywhere, I found Brad was very helpful in resolving any queries I had and I tip my hat to his level of support. My printer is now dialed in to a "T" and I use it everyday.

  2. Exceeded high expectations - Awesome customer service

Posted by Kip on 4th Apr 2014

After weeks of research and narrowing my selection down to two suppliers, I decided to give Ultibots a call. As this is my first 3D printer I had a couple of questions. Brad was super helpful in helping me understand what options I should start with and why. I could not have had a better experience. I was also impressed with the large build volume of the UltiMax. This seemed to be a very complete kit with absolutely everything I wanted in a printer – even more. When the kit arrived, I was even more impressed with the packaging and organization. As I opened and sorted everything to get started with the build, I was continually surprised by the completeness of the kit – LED lights were also include, nice touch. The Printer went together perfectly with only slight cleanup of the printed parts. Heat shrink, braided expandable sleeving, extra connector housings and terminations, YES, everything is in the kit. The finished product looks nothing short of very professional. With the firmware already loaded and preset, the first prints off the printer were nice, clean and usable. This is not a “paint by numbers” type of build; you will have to review the documentation and pictures. I kept my laptop close so I could refer to the complete set of pictures that were supplied on a CD along with other helpful information. This has been the best product/customer service experience I have had. I WILL be doing more business with Ultibots!

  3. A lot of work but worth it

Posted by Norman on 2nd Jan 2014

This is an extremely well equipped kit. I totally recommend it. It might be a bit much for a first printer (like mine), but if you have any mechanical experience and do not mind fiddling around with software settings you should be fine. It took me a few weeks, but I only worked on it about an hour or so a night. The only real problem I had was it seemed like some of the settings were wrong in Marlin, but that was simple to fix.

The assembly was not hard in itself, but the documentation could still use some work. Make sure you look at everything on the CD and on the support page. I have read that their support is excellent, but I never got to the point of needing it.

    What to watch for:
    1. Be careful when you tighten the corner brackets for the bed: I broke one. On the other hand, I sheared off a tap on something else I was working on before this.
    2. Nozzles. If this is your first printer I would recommend getting the .5mm nozzle. Slic3r defaults are for .5mm nozzle so calibration should be easier than for the .35 nozzle I got. The .5mm nozzle should print faster too.
    3. Trapped nuts. I would recommend you look at the diagram showing how many nuts go in each extrusion and compare it to what gets attached to each extrusion. If I recall, the count was off on one of the front ones because it did not account for either the y idler or the control panel, I don't remember which.

  4. Great Kit

Posted by Mike on 4th Dec 2013

This was a great buy. It came with every thing you could need to put it together. All the parts and all the tools. Every thing was even tweaked all ready. If your looking for a kit that can get you up and printing as fast as possible this is the one for you. I took me about four days to assemble and then about a half a day to get my first good part. This is the first 3D printer I have ever built. What a great experience. And if you do need help the support is outstanding. I'm glad I got my printer from Ultibots.com.
