  1. Good at reducing vibration

Posted by Unknown on 29th Aug 2017

Stepper motors bolted straight to a rigid frame (such as on the D300VS) can cause resonance that gets a bit annoying when sitting very near the printer. These dampers do an admirable job at reducing that resonance when performing a lot of quick movements. It's not world-changing, but when your printer is in the living room, sitting right next to the couch and entertainment center, every bit of noise attenuation counts. Now all that can be heard from the printer is a bit of belt whine on large jumps, and the cooling fans - all of which are fairly quiet to begin with, and easy to ignore as white noise when doing something else nearby. A worthwhile price for that extra bit of noise management.

  2. Perfect

I added these to a Monoprice Ultimate to quiet the motors. It did a wonderful job. What was previously the loudest part on the printer, now can't be heard over the fans.

  3. Nice quality but pointless

Posted by MICHAEL on 7th Feb 2017

After applying belt tension, the motor tilts leading to a misaligned bulley.

  4. They definitely do the job

Posted by Rusty on 13th Nov 2016

I bought a set of these to go on my TAZ 5, and they definitely work. I took some sound measurements from about 1.5-2 ft away using the Sound Meter for Android. Ambient sound level was around 45 dB, and with the power supply running, about 50 dB. Likely not actual noise level, but good enough for comparing against.

Prior to installing the dampers, I was registering noise around 56-60dB. I then started installing them one at a time to see the effects. With one on the x-axis, the noise dropped down to around 53-57, on the y-axis down to to 50-55. With one on on the extruder, my phone couldn't tell the difference anymore. I might put some on the z-axis motors eventually to complete the set.

They work. I can barely hear it in the next room. The high frequency noise is gone. Skype can no longer pick up the printer. The installation was a breeze. If you want a quieter printer, get these dampers.

  5. significantly reduce vibration

These dampers work great for reducing the vibration from steppers.

  6. Nothing short of Amazing!

Posted by Brandon Thiele on 13th Sep 2016

I usually don't write reviews. But, wow! On a Makergear M2- stepper noise was reduced by an unbelievable amount. No high frequency harmonics anymore; the metal frame is no longer a tuning fork. 5 minute install for each stepper.. should be standard equipment! I see no reduction in print quality, either.. just make sure your belts are as tight as they were originally; and keep your machine well cleaned and lubed!

  7. Took the edge off the sound!

Posted by John Ricker on 11th Jul 2016

I didn't think the sound difference wss quite as dramatic as I've heard others mention (one reviewer said it went from being noisy two rooms away, to bring quiet enough to not be hard over phone from same room...), but it definitely took the edge off on my Rostock MaxV2. Very pleased, and highly recommend.
Plan to put in during initial build rather than add it on later if you can, will save you a lot of time!

  8. I can't tell if the printer is on anymore!

Posted by Jim Heaney on 8th Jun 2016

These things are amazing! The loudest bit of my printer is now the fan on the hotend! I can't tell if the printer is running or not unless I am looking at it. Definitely recommend this product!

  9. Seems OK

Posted by Unknown on 25th May 2016

The noise seems to be reduced, but I should have bought 1 for my extruder also. Now the extruder is responsible for the most irritating noises that my machine makes.

Installed on the Rostock Max V2. I really wish I had installed these while I was building the machine. For one of the towers, an 8" long #1 phillips screwdriver would have been exactly the right tool.. Unfortunately, most #1 phillips screwdrivers are not that long, and not sold in most stores. Extensions and drive bits won't fit.

At least I did not need to purchase additional hardware. Between the original Rostock screws and the included screws, everything went together nicely.

  10. Drastically reduced the hum on my Makergear M2

Posted by Josh on 12th Apr 2016

The Makergear M2 is made to be robust, and as such the hard mounted motors tend to drone. Even putting it in an electronics cabinet did little to quieten it down. Adding these to the X and Y motors made it a lot quieter. Great purchase.
