Nothing quite captures the imagination like a Delta style 3D printer in action.  The UltiBots Kossel 250 V-Slot is a fun kit to assemble and print from.  It has a 250mm heated bed with an aluminum heat spreader and Kapton Heater. This kit uses a PG35L geared motor directly mounted to the effector.  Our Micro Extruder is compact, lightweight, proven and prints flexible materials like NinjaFlex and TPU.  It is unlike Bowden tube style extruders because the filament is fed directly into the E3D Hotend. Together with V-Slot extrusion and wheels this kit is straight forward and less complicated to build compared to many FFF 3D printers.

  1. Possibly the best printer kit available!

    The components of this kit are all of excellent quality, and everything was neatly packed and labeled. Since the manual is in beta, some information can be a bit difficult to find, but I was able to figure everything out by reading the Q&A and by looking at the pictures in the Google Drive.

    After assembly and FSR leveling, even the first test print was better than any of my other printers. After tweaking the slicer settings, prints were absolutely flawless.

    The only negative thing I can say about this printer, is that the fan that cools the extruder motor is quite loud. The rest of the printer is very quiet, so I might try to do something about that eventually.

    My first 3D printer.
    Not for the faint of heart. Assembly took a week's worth of (long) evenings and I enjoyed every second.
    Excellent quality throughout; Ultibots has curated a high-end group of parts so you don't have to be an expert in each area to end up with a great kit. So far (2 months in), I wouldn't change a thing.
    The support has been great.
    I would echo the comments in the positive reviews before this one - all true.

    After a longer research on the internet I realized that it makes more sense to buy one complete high quality kit rather than a cheap kit. If I had bought a cheap kit, I would have probably bought all the premium features afterwards and end up at a higher price and shittier quality. In this kit really everything is included: An FSR kit for auto-calibration, carbon rods, an 32 Bit controller board, a heated bed and even LED-strips (which are really cool).
    Everything was packed very carefully and not a single washer was missing. In fact there are a few spare nuts and screws.
    Since the previous commends already addressed the incomplete guide, I want to highlight the Ultibot support and the smoothieware website.I asked the support several questions, every single one was answered quickly. For questions regarding the controller board, I recommend visiting http://smoothieware.org/. The website contains a lot of really useful information and the instructions are easy to understand.
    To summarize: I am glad I bought this printer, it works great, looks great and the prints are great as well!


  4. High Quality Printer

    I have been following the UltiBots Kossel 250 v-slot for over a year while waiting to pull the trigger on my first 3D printer. I initially wanted to build a Kossel from scratch. After some research, I determined that a kit was cheaper than sourcing all the components myself. I decided on the UltiBots due to the comments about the great support and the premium features. The BSE with all the upgrades sealed the deal for me. I also preferred a kit over a pre-built so I had the knowledge to perform repairs and maintenance when required.

    All the parts are separated into individually labeled bags for each step of the build. The guide is definitely in beta as others have commented. While not all of the assembly information was in the guide, it is readily available on the UltiBots site. I have been tearing things apart my entire life and have a mechanical engineering degree. I considered the build relatively simple. The longest part was routing all of the wiring to satisfy my neatness OCD.

    There was an issue with one of the components being incorrect - through no fault of UltiBots. Brad promptly and professionally resolved the issue by sending the correct piece once the problem was confirmed.

    The metal corners are great. The frame was perfectly square after assembly with no adjustments required. I performed an initial calibration and must say that the FSR is worth every penny.

    My first print was a test cylinder file that was included on the SD card. It was a 10mm diameter by 50mm high. The printed part measured 10.04mm diameter by 49.95mm high - very impressive! Subsequent prints have been just as accurate. I have had problems with some prints but those are mainly due to learning the various slicing settings. Most of those problems are related to getting good bed adhesion and knowing when supports are needed.

    I've had the nozzle get caught up on a warped print and had the effector disengage from the magball arms. This occurs mostly on ABS prints. I recently built the UltiBots enclosure as shown on thingiverse to help with this issue. The magball arms are nice because they help prevent any serious damage when something like this occurs.

    I highly recommend this printer. It looks beautiful, the components are high quality, it works right out of the gate, and the support is top notch.

    I purchased this printer after a lot of research on the Internet. It looked like the best printer available in my price range.

    I was a bit apprehensive due to it being classified as "beta". This classification, I came to believe, was due to the documentation not being 100% complete when I purchased it (see below).

    After ordering the printer it arrived A day ahead of scheduled delivery.

    I was impressed with the overall packaging and even more impressed with the way all the components were bagged and labeled.

    Although the directions were not totally complete, when I made my purchase,there was sufficient detail that allowed the printer to be assembled and along with the Q&A document provided via Google docs by the Ultibots team,The process for getting answers to any questions were very quickly obtained.
    In fact, on one occasion Brad Norman, the owner of the company, called me on a Saturday morning to clarify any issue I was stumbling with. Ironically the issue had to do with a corrupted file in the laptop computer I was using. Brad said I should try a different computer, which I did and the problem solved itself.

    The first part I printed was the 40 mm test Cube.

    I expected the quality of the very first part to be non-optimal, but to my surprise the part could not have been more perfect.

    After the test part I printed six other parts of the same good quality.

    So, after the first 10 hours of printing the printer has been absolutely flawless.

    Being a retired aircraft engineer it's obvious to me this product has been well-designed and consist of quality parts.

    I also recognize the advantages of the Delta concept as compared with the Cartesian models.

    I would highly recommend this printer to anybody in the market for a 3-D printer.
